DirecTV, News Corp. Cable Funnel Carriage Talks Continue as Evening time Deadline Looms
NY - Talks between satellite tv giant DirecTV and News Corp.'s Fox Cable Systems unit of a new carriage deal for just about any slew of channels ongoing Monday getting a pending evening time PT deadline. Spokesmen for sides declined comment beyond verifying that discussions were ongoing. The cable systems in mind include Foreign exchange, National Geographic and 19 regional sports systems. Inside the latest high-profile carriage dispute, DirecTV has mentioned it might stop moving the systems when the agreement is not showed up at by Tuesday. News Corp. has looked to produce together its various carriage deals, including one due to its broadcast stations, into one agreement. The other day, DirecTV needed the carriage dispute for the FCC. BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield the other day mentioned that News Corp. gets the leverage inside the showdown. "DirecTV has zero leverage in our fight with Fox and may not necessarily be trying to battle Fox," he contended in the blog publish. "DirecTV might be developing a very significant mistake losing Fox programming." Greenfield pointed to recent industry history. "Within the last couple of years, Fox (News Corp.) has experienced much spoken about carriage/retrans battles with Dish, Cablevision and Time Warner Cable," he mentioned. "TWC settled much like Fox programming would get dropped at the outset of 2010, while Dish and Cablevision went a few days in the finish of 2010 without programming within the Fox number of systems."
